indulging in a little harmless misanthropy

Although I don't require it, my recent and unexpected solitude has led to a creative explosion made manifest via the written word. The work I am doing is good, perhaps my best. For the record, I don't consider myself a writer. I consider myself a reader who writes when the mood strikes.

Besides that...

I have been listening to a lot of jazz. Django, Stephane...as if they don't go hand in hand, some Victor Wooten, Charlie Parker. Something about the syncopation helps me think.

I have also been indulging in long walks. I believe walking is good for the soul.

I'm also putting together a new shop update, but more on that later.

Incidentally, I am aware that this post is all over the place.

I was reading an article in Esquire the other day. By the way it happens to be one of my favorite magazines, even if it is for men.

Back to the article...it's all about exploring the things that are truly essential vs. the things we've allowed to become essential. I imagine it is something different for everybody. I had been thinking about conducting a little experiment of my own and figured that now would be as good a time as any to begin my temporary, maybe permanent going without:

wine
facebook
takeout

the first...because I feel like it
the second...for my sanity, and because I'm starting to dislike people I use to like
the third...for my health

that's it. I'll let you know how it goes.

I think the facebook thing may be a challenge but whatevs...I'm going a bit underground for a while anyway.
