I always get a little bit excited when September rolls around. Not only does it mean that Fall is right around the corner but it is also the month of fashion. With New York fashion week wrapped up and Paris fashion week set to begin quite soon. I enjoy immersing myself in a world of color, texture and pattern...if only for a little while.
I was inspired to create a different sort of journal entry this week inspired by my love of fashion and how my own understanding of it has evolved. I use to believe that great fashion and style were synonymous and you couldn't have one without the other. I no longer find that to be true. I wrote a post about fashion and style a few years ago...you can find it here.
Details: I wanted this layout to look slightly editorial as a nod to my beloved fashion magazines. I kept the type simple and chose to include a photo of my very red lips since it relates to the journaling. I drew the photo of the girl using a .005 Micron Pen and a red Sharpie for the lips...I liked the girl's hair because it reminded me of my own...the drawing itself is heavily inspired by the marvelous Garance Doré.
For the record:
I have never actually been to a fashion show...The mall ones don't count right?
I was in Paris during Fashion week last year and it was pretty fabulous.
So were Kim and Kanye.
I use to work across the street from Chanel and a block away from Barney's and never went in.
The closest I've ever been to any designer was when I helped the Mulleavy sisters choose paper.
Get Messy is an art journal challenge where a gang of crafty vixens are sharing art journal pages we have created to practise our skills and push past our creative limits with hopes to inspire. We share our pages without restraint every week, and once a month we create around a prompt. Go check out these crazy talented ladies who are creating pages who each have a unique perspective and style. We will be sharing our work around social media so follow the hashtag #getmessyartjourna

I love that you have printed directly onto the page. I really want to do that, it looks so great.
Your sketch is beautiful. The red lips make her pop. Beautiful pages (and very fashion magaziney indeed).
Your sketch is really stunning. I love the idea behind the page and it's execution. How did you print directly into your journal? Lovely!
The drawing is beautiful and the way you have cropped the photo and the placement of both pictures is fantastic. Love how they reflect each other. The white space is brilliant. I LOVE these pages. I love fashion and make up too.
thanks so much everybody:) Oh and the secret behind printing on the page?
I didn't. I actually printed on a lovely cream text weight paper. I then used a glue stick to adhere it to the pages in my moleskine. The pages in this little journal are so very thin that I usually just adhere them together anyway. It looks quite seamless in person.
Emm. So what you're saying is that I'm only one degree away from the Mulleavy sisters.
I really love your layout <3 Did you print right on the pages ? It looks so... perfect!!
