iconic

So I got an email from someone wanting to know how I was liking the scrapbooking kit club I signed up for...my answer...

I love it! I rarely use exclamation points but there you have it...an exclamation point.

I have not scrapped in a while...a long while. I just wasn't into it. The stuff, the time, I just couldn't be bothered. But I still really loved all the things that got me scrapbooking to begin with like the photos and the storytelling. I knew that I wanted to resurrect my faded love for it, I just wasn't so sure how.

Enter the kit.

I signed up and got a bag full of cardstock, patterned paper, stickers, embellishments, ephemera and a stamp...yup, the kit included stamps. You may be thinking...well, I have all of that stuff already...why exactly do I need more??? Well, you don't, I don't. But I definitely needed help...and the fact that everything comes coordinated was a big help...even to busy graphic designers who should already know how to match stuff. Yep, I know what matches...but I'm drowning under a sea of stuff...pulling out all the bits and pieces gets tough when you have so many bits and pieces. The kit was so great that...guess what?

I'm scrapping again. 4 layouts in one day. That's a record. It has even inspired me to go through my own stuff and begin making kits a la Grace. That doesn't mean i'm going to stop getting the kit since my absolute favorite part is that the stuff in new. NEW. I love new...but the scrapbook world is changing so much and it seems like every week companies are coming out with new product. This is the best way I could think of to stay out of the stores (dangerous), and still get spanking new goodies. The key is finding a kit club that is in keeping with your style.

Just to prove I'm not all talk, here are my layouts using this month's Iconic kit:

Glad I found you! (via Mou's blog, no less) I love your layouts. You've inspired me to try a kit. I've always thought they'd be too matchy-matchy.
Now to find the right kit for me. How'd you choose yours?
Going back to look at your layouts more closely to see if I can get some inspiration.

wow...that makes my day. Thanks a bunch!

as for how I chose my kit club? I just looked at a lot and went with the the one that most consistently used manufacturers I loved and my style of paper and embellies. Most will give you a chance to look through past kits. That helps...also having a gallery so you can see what others came up with using the same kit is a huge help. Good luck and let me know when you decide who to go with.

Well I love Basic Grey paper and colourful striped paper (esp. by K.I. Memories) but I wouldn't have a clue where to begin to look for a kit. There are so many out there! But I love the idea of it.

I'm a big fan of those companies as well. they are a perfect example of my favorite technique, if you can call it that, mixing modern with vintage. For me, it boiled down to

Studio Calico, Label Tulip and
Cocoa Daisy...it wasn't just about finding a good club, but a reliable one as well. I had read some not so nice things on message boards and was worried, but these companies seemed really good and I am happy so far:) BTW I ended up going with Studio Calico.

If you still can't figure it out go through your own stash and make your own kits...set them aside and use them when you're ready. Sometimes i would rather pick through my stuff than actually scrapbook...that's the best time for a little kit making project.
