Get Messy | September 25th

This week's journal entry was inspired by the following prompt:

Journaling Challenge: Live your adventurous dreams on paper. What would you love to do, or at least try, if you had the courage to live more adventurously? I would, for example, like to live on a houseboat or a train wagon.
Art Challenge: Try a method or material you’ve never worked with before. Be adventurous!

I approached the challenge pretty literally.  Interestingly enough, I've explored this topic before in other journals, but I decided to create something new. My fantasy adventure is kinda funny but I would love to mine for gold. My husband and I watch all the Discovery shows, we've watched documentaries...we're both super fascinated by the whole thing. Lacking all experience and knowledge I don't intend to actually pursue this line of work, but I do like daydreaming about it.

On the left side I chose to just do a bit of abstract embroidery. This is something I've wanted to try for a while. I've sewn on layouts and such but never embroidered. For a while I hunted for a pattern, but eventually gave up and created a freestyle design of my own. I wanted to recreate the look of little gold nuggets below ground. I really loved it and can't wait to do it again.

The right side is just a line from one of my favorite songs by the amazing Jill Scott. This song came out about 10 years ago and I still listen to it all the time. It's all about freedom and whenever I listen to it I can't help but feel...golden.

Details: The background is by Crate Paper...I think it's a little bit on the older side. The right side was written by me, but I based my type style on the Emmascript font.  I used a fine tip gold Sharpie paint pen so it would show up on the dark paper. The bits and pieces at the bottom is a tiny strip of kraft/shiny gold paper for which I do not know the source, a tiny piece of gold polka dot washi and a small gold banner tab that I got in a Studio Calico kit a few months ago.

Get Messy is an art journal challenge where a gang of crafty vixens are sharing art journal pages we have created to practise our skills and push past our creative limits with hopes to inspire. We share our pages without restraint every week, and once a month we create around a prompt. Go check out these crazy talented ladies who are creating pages who each have a unique perspective and style. We will be sharing our work around social media so follow the hashtag #getmessyartjournal

Love the embroidery! I want to try that, too. Did you poke holes in the page before you stitched? It seems like it would be easy to bend the paper otherwise.

I love this so much! I thought it was pretty the second I saw it, but hearing the explanation makes it even better. I adore the little gold "nuggets"! That's a cool adventure to want to have!

Those pages are so interesting and very different to anything else I have seen. The golden nugget stitches are so organic, I thought this was about coffe at first. So creative,

Whow. I love these pages. The gold and stitching is amazing!!
You know you could plan gold mining as a vacation. They have places where you could go and spend a few hours. I've done it before and though it was really neat.
